2021 Mazda MX-30 Electric price and specs confirmed

Local pricing and specification has been confirmed for the 2021 Mazda MX-30 Electric, with the model wearing a premium price tag but delivering lower specification than its rivals.

Opening at $65,490, the 2021 Mazda MX30 Electric small SUV represents a $24,500 price increase over the $40,990 top-spec 2021 MX-30 M Hybrid Astina which goes on sale this month. All prices exclude on-road costs.

Equipped with a 35.5kWh battery pack operating at 355 volts, the 2021 Mazda MX-30 Electric has a driving range of 200km, outputting 107kW and 271Nm through its front wheels.

In the MX-30 Electric’s price bracket is the Nissan Leaf e+, packing a $60,490 price, 62kWh battery and 385km driving range; the $62,000 Hyundai Kona Electric with a 64kWh battery and 484km driving range; and the $62,900 Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus which offers a driving range in excess of 500km thanks to a 60kWh battery.

The 2021 Mazda MX-30’s water-cooled lithium-ion battery is 50kW charging capable, able to recuperate charge from 20–80 per cent in a claimed 36 minutes – however, via a 6.6kWh public charger or the supplied 240-volt home charger, charge times increase to approximately three and nine hours respectively.

Mazda warranties the MX-30’s battery for eight years and the car for five years and unlimited kilometres. Servicing takes place at 12-month/15,000km intervals, with a five-year capped servicing package available for $1273.79.

Only available in Astina trim – denoting Mazda’s luxury specification – the MX-30 Electric receives a raft of tech and safety.

Notable standard kit lists a powered glass sunroof, 18-inch alloy wheels, 10-way powered and heated driver’s seat, 8.8-inch infotainment screen and 7.0-inch driver display with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity and satellite navigation.

Scoring a five-star ANCAP safety rating, the 2021 Mazda MX-30 Electric cops a full suite of safety equipment, including: 10 airbags; 360-degree camera; adaptive LED headlights; autonomous emergency braking; blind-spot monitoring; forward obstruction and cross-traffic alert; lane-keep assist with departure warning; adaptive cruise control; and traffic sign recognition.

The 2021 Mazda MX-30 Electric is available now for pre-order, with deliveries scheduled to begin in August.
