MG Motor has commenced a safety recall campaign for selected MG3 models, after discovering a seat defect that could increase the risk of leg injuries in a crash.

During Euro NCAP’s testing for the MG3 conducted in September 2025, the driver side seat (with six-way manual adjustment) slid forward by 111.5mm on the side closest to the centre console upon collision. This movement may increase the risk of leg injuries in the event of a frontal impact.

The recall affects MG3 hatchbacks manufactured between March 6, 2024 and July 30, 2025 – some 10,516 vehicles in Australia.

MG has notified the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development and Communications and said in a statement it is not aware of any incidents relating to the defect.

MG will also contact affected MG3 owners directly and it is encouraging them to contact their local MG Motor service centre as soon as possible to have an additional component fitted to the driver’s seat rail at no charge. The fix is estimated to take from 30 minutes to an hour.

For further information or to confirm if your vehicle is affected, contact MG Motor a customer care on 1800 644 637 or see MG’s FAQ page.

Safety credentials have been an ongoing issue for the MG3, which was upgraded from a three- to four-star ANCAP safety rating in September 2025 after the addition of a centre airbag between the two front row occupants, a driver monitoring system, and improved collision avoidance capability.
