Q: What does a typical day look like for you as an NRMA Driving Instructor?
A: Every day is different, which keeps the role interesting. I spend my time coaching learners with different experience levels, helping them improve their driving skills, confidence, and road awareness while creating a calm and positive learning environment.
Q: What do you love most about your job and/or team?
A: I love seeing learners grow in confidence and achieve their goals. The team is also fantastic — supportive, encouraging, and always willing to share advice and experiences.
Q: What’s been one of your most rewarding moments as an instructor?
A: One of the most rewarding moments is seeing a nervous learner pass their driving test after working hard to build their skills and confidence. Knowing I played a part in that achievement is very fulfilling.

A: NRMA provided excellent training, clear guidance, and ongoing support from experienced team members. I always felt like I had someone to turn to whenever I needed help or advice.

A: Having flexible hours and the ability to manage my schedule has been a huge benefit. It creates a great balance between work responsibilities and personal life.

A: NRMA’s training curriculum is designed to make training an enjoyable part for learners and the instructors.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you as an NRMA Driving Instructor?
A: A typical day for me as an NRMA driving Instructor involves teaching practical driving skills, guiding them through different road conditions, assessing progress and giving feedback to help learners improve their driving skills and build confidence on the road. The day also involves planning lesson routes, keeping lesson records and ensuring students feel safe and confident while driving.
Q: What do you love most about your job and/or team?
A: I love most about being a driving instructor is teaching safe driving skills and helping learners to gain confidence behind wheels and being safe & independent drivers.
Q: What’s been one of your most rewarding moments as an instructor?
A: The most rewarding moments for me as an instructor are when a nervous learner who previously struggled with basic controls becomes calm and confident in traffic, learns skills like safe gap judgement, hazard awareness and skilfully parks their vehicle without any hesitation.

A: NRMA helped me with a professional training for all the skills required to be a safe driving instructor.
Q: How has this role helped you balance work with family or other commitments?
A: This role has helped me balance work-life balance as lessons are scheduled around availability and roster is given for fortnight. However peak demand times (weekends) is broken into multiple lessons.
Q: What flexibility options make this role work for you?
A: I have more flexibility in this role as a driving Instructor as I have some mornings free and some evening times free.

A: The work culture at the NRMA is professional, safety-focused and supportive. Driving Instructors are part of a team environment with ongoing training and support, while still having independence in how they deliver lessons.

A: I felt proud to work for NRMA as it’s a team working for its strong reputation and the positive impact it has on helping learners become safe, confident drivers.

A: There are number of opportunities for growth and development as the team itself is growing rapidly.
Q: What attracted you to become a Driving Instructor with the NRMA?
A: The name NRMA was a definite yes in my mind and the colour Blue. I have always wanted to help people, and NRMA shares that same vision. It provided the opportunity to teach people how to become safe, independent drivers. NRMA's commitment to road safety aligned well with my values and brought me closer to achieving my goal of helping create safer roads.
Q: Why did you choose NRMA over other Driving schools or Instructor roles?
A: I chose NRMA because of its strong reputation and trusted brand. As I had just become a driving instructor, I was looking for an organisation that offered ongoing support to help me build my confidence and develop my skills.
Q: What surprised you most (in a good way) when you started with the NRMA?
A: When I started with NRMA, I was pleasantly surprised by the wide range of age groups they catered to through their road safety programs. It didn't matter how old you were—NRMA provided road safety education and support for anyone willing to learn. I found it inspiring that they were committed to helping people of all ages become safer and more confident road users.
Q: What does a typical day look like for you as an NRMA Driving Instructor?
A: A typical day as an Nrma Driving Instructor has a variety of sessions. It could be learners, seniors, overseas drivers or even Corporate drivers. School holidays and weekends running Safer Driver Courses to create Low Risk Drivers on the road. It’s all about creating safe independent drivers that understand driving is a privilege and have chose to drive.
Q: What do you love most about your job and/or team?
A: The most rewarding moment in my career was when my first learner passed their driving test. I felt incredibly proud and excited to have played a part in helping them achieve such an important milestone. Since then, the most rewarding part of my job has been helping learners develop into safe, confident, and responsible drivers every day. Seeing them understand and follow the road rules, appreciate the responsibilities that come with driving, and gain the independence that a driver's licence provides is incredibly fulfilling. Watching learners grow in confidence while balancing the freedom of driving with the responsibility it requires is what I find most satisfying about my work.
Q: What’s been one of your most rewarding moments as an instructor?
A: The most rewarding moment for me was when my first learner passed their driving test. I felt incredibly excited and proud. Q: How did the NRMA support you when you first started?
A: NRMA provided a comprehensive induction program, which was a great refresher for me as a driving instructor and a valuable introduction to the organisation. From there, I received ongoing training on a range of road safety programs and products, which helped me build my skills and confidence in delivering road safety education.
Q: How has this role helped you balance work with family or other commitments?
A: One of the greatest benefits of working at NRMA has been the flexibility. As a mum, it allowed me to balance my work responsibilities with being there for my children, while also giving me time to pursue my passion for teaching. That flexibility has made it possible to successfully manage my career, family, and personal commitments.
Q: What flexibility options make this role work for you?
A: One of the biggest flexibility benefits for me is being able to take holidays without worrying about losing work. Having someone continue booking sessions while I'm away means I can return to a full schedule instead of having to rebuild my client base. As a contractor, that level of support has made a significant difference to both my work-life balance and my income.

A: Professional, welcoming, and dedicated to helping members.
Q: When have you felt most proud to work for NRMA?
A: I have felt most proud working for NRMA as a Driving Instructor when I've helped refugee drivers gain the skills and confidence to drive safely and independently. Seeing someone overcome barriers and achieve such an important milestone is incredibly rewarding. Every time one of my students—young or old—understands the importance of road safety, and I'm representing NRMA in my uniform, I feel a real sense of pride and accomplishment. Knowing I've helped make our roads safer while empowering others is one of the most fulfilling parts of my role.
Q: What opportunities have you had to grow or develop at the NRMA?
A: I have been an instructor for 15 years and always worked as a contractor for NRMA. During my time at NRMA, I've had the opportunity to continuously grow and develop through a range of increasingly diverse and responsible roles. I started as a Driving Instructor and expanded my experience into positions including Senior Driver Assessor, Corporate Driver Trainer, Driver Coach, Facilitator for the Safer Drivers Course (Module 1), and Module 2 Coach. Beyond delivering driver training, I have developed strong leadership and mentoring skills by coaching and supporting both new and experienced driving instructors. I've also designed and delivered professional development programs and instructor mentoring initiatives, helping to improve capability and promote best practice across the team. NRMA has also provided opportunities to contribute to meaningful community and education projects. These have included refugee driver education programs for learner drivers and supervising drivers, high school road safety and pre-learner education programs, community road safety initiatives, and the development of inclusive driver education resources for culturally diverse communities. These experiences have enabled me to broaden my expertise beyond driver training into adult education, coaching, facilitation, stakeholder engagement, program design, and risk management. They have strengthened my ability to adapt my communication to diverse audiences and reinforced my commitment to helping people become safer, more confident, and responsible road users while contributing to positive community outcomes.
Q: What's kept you working at the NRMA?
A: I appreciate working in a supportive, friendly and reliable team. This role also aligns with my passion for teaching and mentoring, and I find it rewarding to help others develop their skills while building a meaningful career.
Q: How has this role helped you to broaden your career and/or skills?
A: It has given me the confidence and knowledge to expand my career into all areas of driver training.
Q: What excites you about your future here at the NRMA/Driver Training business?
A: NRMA has consistently demonstrated a proactive commitment to vehicle innovation and driver safety. With ongoing changes to road environments and rapid advancements in vehicle technology, driver education must continue to evolve. At NRMA, our role extends beyond instruction—we act as facilitators and coaches, supporting learners in developing safe driving habits and adapting to the demands of modern transport. Therefore, it excites me on what more there is as a NRMA instructor.
